FAQ

Frequently asked questions about product selection, customization, lead time and cooperation.

Product selection

What is the difference between DAS and BOTDA, and which should I choose?

DAS measures vibration and sound — suited to third-party intrusion, leaks and pig tracking; BOTDA measures temperature and strain — suited to leak location and structural health monitoring. Simple rule: to detect events choose DAS, to quantify temperature or strain choose BOTDA. Both can share the same fibre.

Can I get both the longest range and the finest spatial resolution?

No — the two trade off. Finer spatial resolution means a shorter pulse and weaker return signal, so the usable range drops. The DAS-21-80KM reaches about 40 km at 3 m resolution and up to 110 km at 26 m. Fix the farthest monitoring point and the smallest event you need to localise, then take the balance point.

What fibre is required on site? Do I need to lay new cable?

In most cases existing telecom cable can be reused, needing one spare strand (FC/APC). DAS is single-ended; BOTDA requires a double-ended loop. Three conditions: a spare strand, acceptable link loss, and no strong reflectors. We assess link loss first.

Should I buy an acquisition card or a complete instrument?

If you integrate systems yourself and already have host software and an enclosure, the card (ZC-DAS-2) is cheaper and more flexible; if you need a deployable, commissioned unit, choose the instrument (DAS-21-80KM / ZC-BOTDA-001). The card is a 1/2/4-channel processing board; the instrument adds optics, power and housing.

Customization & delivery

How long from requirement assessment to delivery?

Five steps: requirement and fibre assessment 3–5 business days, selection 1–2 days, prototype testing 1–2 weeks, integration and acceptance about 1 week, delivery and training per contract. Typically 4–8 weeks overall; stock standard models ship in 1–2 weeks.

Can the product be customized to our requirements?

Yes. Typical options: channel count (1/2/4), range and resolution combination, housing (portable or rack), interfaces (Gigabit Ethernet / serial), host protocol integration, and OEM/ODM branding. Mechanics and optics are developed in-house, so changes move faster than rebadged third-party units.

What information is needed for a custom build?

Four items start the assessment: application and monitoring target, on-site fibre conditions (type, length, spare strands), key specifications (range, resolution, channels), and quantity plus lead time. Drawings or interface documents help. We can sign an NDA first.

Commercial & support

What is the minimum order? Can I buy a single unit to trial?

One unit for standard models; single-unit purchase at the sample stage with no volume commitment. Volume pricing is discussed after the trial passes.

What warranty and technical support is included?

12-month warranty with free repair for non-human damage. Support covers remote guidance (phone/video) and on-site visits; software updates are free during warranty. Delivery includes training, test records and documentation.

Can I download datasheets and prices directly?

No public downloads — configurations differ by project (channels, range, interfaces, housing all affect model and price), so a generic datasheet invites mis-selection. Send your application through the inquiry form or by phone and we will send the matching datasheet and quotation directly.

Company & cooperation

What kind of company is FIBOAK?

FIBOAK (Xi'an) Information Technology Co., Ltd. was founded in 2023, headquartered in Xi'an with an R&D centre in Guangzhou. Three product lines: DAS, BOTDA, and distributed high-speed acquisition cards — full-chain self-reliance from the core card to the portable instrument.

Are the core chips domestic? Does it meet Xinchuang requirements?

Core chips are fully domestic; the main controller uses Xilinx Zynq7-100 with in-house acquisition logic, meeting Xinchuang localization requirements. A localization list or supporting documents can be provided at the commercial stage.
